There is a reason why phones with dual-SIM card feature are popular. They are mighty useful, especially in countries like India where people like choices in what network they use. But the iPhone just like many other high-end phones doesn't have this feature. But just like many other high-end phones, most notable the Samsung Galaxy S7, it is possible that the next iPhone aka the iPhone 8 in 2017 may come with support for two SIM cards.
There is one HUGE technical reason Apple does not have a dual SIM iPhone:
They believe the benefits of having a thinner iPhone with more battery life outweigh the advantages of a dual SIM phone, which most of it’s customers do not need and would never use
.

But it has changed its mindset
According to a report by Forbes, Apple has filed an application with the Chinese intellectual property office for a patent that describes support for dual-SIM card feature in a phone. At the same time, the company has also seen a similar application getting approved by the US patent office last week.
"Some mobile devices have the capability of using multiple SIMs," notes the US patent. This allows "users to maintain different wireless services, such as for business and personal use."
Once a not-so-important feature, the support for dual-SIM cards in a phone has crucial for phone companies. Almost all the mainstream and budget phones nowadays sold in India support two SIM cards because consumers here like to use multiple SIM cards for multiple purposes. One SIM card they may use for data, while the other one is used for calls and messages.
USPTO Patent No. 9,521,563 was awarded to Apple on Tuesday, and it describes a System, apparatus, and method for controlling access to multiple antennas in mobile devices having multiple SIMs.
As is the case with any other patent, this newly discovered documentation merely proves that Apple has been investigating this particular technology. But it certainly doesn’t mean the iPhone 8 will have dual SIM support next year. That said, dual SIM support would be a very appealing feature for the upcoming iPhone in many markets.
What’s interesting about the patent is that it seems to indicate this type of dual SIM technology, including signal processing and prioritizing, may be needed in the future to handle new and even traditional communication standards.
“Wireless communication systems are rapidly growing in usage. Further, wireless communication technology has evolved from voice-only communications to also include the transmission of data, such as Internet and multimedia content,” the patent reads. “As wireless communication systems evolve, successive generations of wireless communication technologies tend to be developed. Adoption of a new generation wireless technology may be a gradual process, during which one or more previous generations of a similar technology may co-exist with the new generation technology, e.g., for a period of time until the new generation wireless technology is fully deployed.”
Does that mean Apple envisions a future where 5G and 4G will be used to handle different types of wireless communication? We can only speculate, as next-gen communication standards aren’t even here. However, Apple still acknowledges that you may want to use a SIM for personal communications and a separate one for work.
“Some mobile devices have the capability of using multiple SIMs (subscriber identification modules), e.g., allowing users to maintain different wireless services, such as for business and personal use,” the patent says.
Apple will release its next iPhone, likely to be called iPhone 8, in September 2017. This is going to be the 10th anniversary of the iPhone and hence the expectations from the phone are high. The iPhone is also due for a redesign this year given the fact that Apple has used the same design after the 2016 when it came out with the iPhone 6.
A lot of new features have been rumored for the iPhone 8. Here is quick recap:

-- No home button. This will allow a bigger screen without increasing the size of the phone.
-- Three variants: 4.7-inch iPhone 8. 5.5-inch iPhone 8 Plus and 5.5-inch iPhone 8 Plus with AMOLED display.
-- The bigger variants are likely to have dual-camera similar to what the iPhone 7 Plus has.
-- A11 processor.
-- Wireless charging has been rumored.
-- The iPhone 8 will surely be water and dust proof, similar to the iPhone 7.

   NOKIA COMPANY’S COMEBACK

The once-and-still-loved Nokia is all set to make a comeback in the early part of 2017 with an Android-powered phone.
Once the world's largest phone maker, the news of the comeback is already creating waves, much to the excitement of everyone, especially fans.

However, it won't be an easy comeback for the Finnish phone-maker considering that the market is now dominated by Korean tech giant Samsung and US' Apple with tough competition from other device makers such as Xiaomi, Lenovo, Oppo with their high-end features and low pricing.
HMD Global Oy, branded as simply HMD, stylized as hmd., is a Finnish company that develops mobile devices under the "Nokia" brand name.


 It was formed in May 2016 announcing its purchase of part of Microsoft Mobile's feature phone business, the successor of Nokia's mobile phone business, and a licensing agreement. The sale was completed in December 2016. It is headed by CEO Arto Nummela and is headquartered in Espoo near Helsinki, in front of Nokia's headquarters.


Nokia officially handed the keys to its brand to upcoming phone maker HMD, which already has plans for Android-powered phones and tablets. We looked through the leaders of the new company and it turned out that many of them had long stints at Nokia.

If that isn’t enough to ease your worries that we’ll be disappointed once New Nokia phones launch, try this on for size - Google had plenty of input for the new devices.

Details on what was said are private, but it’s clear that HMD’s ambitions are world-spanning. "We are not going to skip any markets in the long term," says President Folrian Seiche. "We want to be one of the key competitive players in the smartphone business," says CEO Arto Nummela

The Future of Your PC's Hardware- MEMRISTOR


Many of my tech friends show that they did not know about MEMRISTOR

Think “How will we design systems when we have access to a new material that is two orders of magnitude more efficient from a power perspective than traditional transistor technologies, contains multiple petabits (1 petabit = 128TB) of persistent storage, and can be reconfigured to be either memory or CPU in a package as small as a sugar cube (in a stacked configuration)?”
This simple memristor circuit could bring a new era of electronic devices
From the beginning of the electronic device there are 3 types of circuits namely INDUCTOR, CONDUCTOR and RESISTOR. But a new type was theoretically proved by  UC Berkeley researcher Leon Chua  in 1971   


In 2008, a team at HP Labs claimed to have found Chua's missing memristor based on an analysis of a thin film of titanium dioxide
thus connecting the operation of RRAM devices to the memristor concept; the HP result was published in Nature.[3] Following this claim, Leon Chua has argued that the memristor definition could be generalized to cover all forms of two-terminal non-volatile memory devices based on resistance switching effects  
         
What exactly is this?

A memristor is a hypothetical non-linear passive two-terminal electrical component relating electric charge and magnetic flux linkage The memristor’s
electrical resistance is not constant but depends on the history of current that had previously flowed through the device, i.e., its present resistance depends on how much electric charge has flowed in what direction through it in the past; the device remembers its history — the so-called non-volatility property




In his video Finding the Missing Memristor by R. Stanley Williams explains this concept as a simple analogy

“A memristor is a pipe that changes diameter with the amount and direction of water that flows through it. If water flows through this pipe in one direction, it expands (becoming less resistive). But send the water in the opposite direction and the pipe shrinks (becoming more resistive). Further, the memristor remembers its diameter when water last went through. Turn off the flow and the diameter of the pipe “freezes” until the water is turned back on. That freezing property suits memristors brilliantly for computer memory. The ability to indefinitely store resistance values means that a memristor can be used as a non-volatile memory”


HP connections with MEMRISTOR?

 HP promised it would launch "a replacement for flash in the summer of 2013," but by the time 2012 rolled around, HP announced a further delay, saying it wouldn't be available until 2014.
Hopes of memristor-loving boffins the world over were truly dashed in 2013 when HP CTO Martin Fink said HP would start churning out 100TB memristor storage drives ... in 2018. This stuff, as miraculous as seems, is devilishly hard to manufacture.
Now HP says the tech could come along in DIMM form by 2016, according to a slide shown at the conference, and that it will appear by the end of the decade in a new device:

IF this goes as per schedule, HP may defeat the rot in its printing and computer divisions that is currently weighing it down. If it doesn't work, though, HP could become another Sun Microsystems, a company that birthed some incredible inventions but never quite figured out how to make money from them.

With the things going either ways, This MEMISTOR will definitely have an effect on our electronic devices and we may step forward in the new era of electronics
